BASF has traded in China since 1885. Today, it is one of the leading foreign investors in the Chinese chemical industry and employs over 4,000 people here. BASF currently operates 15 wholly owned subsidiaries and 8 joint ventures in Greater China and maintains 8 offices in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Qingdao, Chengdu and Taipei.

BASF started its first subsidiary in Hong Kong, BASF China Ltd., in 1982. This company is responsible for sales, marketing and distribution of imported and locally manufactured products in Hong Kong and China. The holding company, BASF (China) Co. Ltd., was founded in 1996 to integrate all BASF operations in China. It acts as sales agent and distributor, as well as a corporate service provider for joint ventures.

Across the straits, BASF started doing business in Taiwan over half a century ago. BASF Taiwan Ltd., established in 1969, has a processing factory for pre-mixed nutrition additives for animal feed.

BASF’s core businesses in Greater China include polymer dispersions, styrene, polystyrene, polyurethanes, engineering plastics, coatings, finishing products for the textile & leather industries, intermediates, vitamins and crop protection products.
