Rational Business Developer (RBD) is a simple, robust, unified approach to
end-to-end construction of application and services that shields developers
from intricacies of runtimes and middleware. At the heart of RBD is a language
called Enterprise Generation Language (EGL) which is being positioned
strategically as the newest business development language for enterprise
modernization. EGL achieves platform independence not through a Virtual Machine
or interpreter, but through compiling EGL program specifications into the
languages that provide support for the desired runtime platform. In particular,
IBM Rational has delivered deployment options via compilation of EGL into Java,
COBOL, and most recently the JavaScript that supports Web 2.0 applications.
