Technical Student Intern for RF Division Location: Chengdu
Department Description The RF Division, is part of the Network and Computing Systems Group of Freesca le Semiconductor. RFD develops high power discrete and IC solutions for the Ce llular Infrastructure(GSM, W-CDMA, WiMax), CATV, Industrial-Scientific-Medical , and Microwave/Avionics markets. Key product offerings are used in: cellular and WiMax basestations, analog/digital broadcast television systems, cable TV systems, industrial RF systems, as well as other applications.
Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations Main responsibilities include the design and development of Discrete High Powe r RF Transistors for the wireless infrastructure markets. Design work involves low impedance transistor matching networks including integrated passives, wir e bonds, MOSCAPs, packaging interfaces and PCB board level matching. The desig n process uses a combination of measurement based techniques (e.g. loadpull da ta, etc) and CAD software with the use of linear and non-linear models. The de sign process will make use of Agilent’s ADS, 3D and planar electromagnetic si mulation tools. The position will require for the individual to work closely w ith device engineers, product engineers, modeling engineers and manufacturing personnel for successful and timely product introduction. It will focus on ISM and broadcasting market application support for global market.
Specific Knowledge/Skills Candidate will hold a minimum of a BS degree, MS preferred in electrical engin eering, physics or related technical field and have a minimum of 1 to 2 years direct experience in designing high-power RF transistor internal-matching netw orks using LDMOS or GaAs HFET technologies, corresponding to devices with more than 60W output power at 2 GHz and above. The engineer must have a strong bac kground on Microwave and RF engineering with an emphasis on several of the fol lowing areas: • Hands-on experience with board level tuning and optimization of matchi ng networks. • Microwave measurement techniques (S-parameters, loadpull setups, VNA c alibration techniques, spectrum analyzers, power meters, etc). • Understanding and development of advanced RF/microwave measurement tec hniques • Working knowledge with Agilent's Advanced Design System (ADS) , Ansoft 's High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) and planar electromagnetic solver s (Sonnet's Em and/or Agilent's Momentum) • Solid understanding concerning circuit instability and strategies to r esolve them. • ISM & Broadcasting products experience will be the plus. • Strong communication skills
